“Slock” Making Workshop
with Angie Smales – The Potty Knitter
at Tarndie, 37 Roseneath Road, Warncoort.
Sunday 28 June
10am – 3pm
Kicking off the Woolcraft Workshop programme for 2015 is an incredible Birregurra talent who will bring her creativity and drive all the way to Tarndie – stay tuned for more workshops planned for the 4th Sunday each month June – November in 2015.
Before Gortex and polar fleece there was a sturdy felted knit fabric, and in mountain regions around the world, the technique of felted knitting was used to produce garments that were durable, strong, wind and shower proof and, above all, warm.
Under the expert guidance of workshop presenter, Angie Smales – The Potty Knitter, this workshop will teach you to knit for successful felting and the actual technique of felting and shaping your knitted Slock.
Suitable for knitters of all skill levels, even beginners. If you can knit and purl, you can successfully knit Slocks.
The first half of the day will be spent knitting, following a simple pattern, especially written to match the felting properties of Tarndie’s 100% Polwarth Wool.
You will then be guided, step-by-step, through the felting process, using a top-loader washing machine, followed by the stretching and shaping your finished Slock.
The workshop allows enough time for a beginner to complete one Slock and all instructions and materials for the completion of the 2nd Slock at home. It is quite possible for experienced knitters to finish the pair on the day.
