Stories from the Ciderhouse
Sunday 29 April
Heritage. Storytelling. Cider. Apple Trees. Cornish Fare.
Tarndwarncoort opens the garden gate to celebrate the completion of restoration works on the 1860s Ciderhouse. Enjoy cider, Cornish fare and guided tours of the 178 year old family farm. Paid ticket events include cider tasting masterclasses and “Stories from The Ciderhouse” performances.
Visit the Dennis family at “Tarndwarncoort” and experience living pastoral history! As well, an official launch will mark the completion of the Ciderhouse restoration, a project supported by Heritage Victoria.
As one of Victoria’s oldest farming properties, Tarndwarncoort has a rich story that reflects the economic, social and environmental changes seen across the Western District since European settlement.
Watch on as the stories, characters and events that have shaped Tarndwarncoort over the past 178 years are brought to life as playwright and poet, Linnet Hunter, draws on Dennis family letters, farm journals, personal diaries, self-published memoirs and old newspaper articles to create a series of vignettes presented in the atmospheric and newly restored 1860s Ciderhouse. Book your spot at one of the performances now online.
Take part in a Cider Masterclass in the 1878 Dining Room in the Homestead with Mike Juleff of Crucible Cider – book your seat online.
Apple tree pruning and grafting demonstrations by the Heritage Fruits Society in the garden. Then there is Tarndie’s own Polwarth wool to handle and witness grass-to-garment craft in action. Come for lunch – Cornish pasties and ploughmans lunch boxes with local declicaies served with that classic country hospitality, set outdoors in lovely courtyard and garden settings.
This event is part of the Australian Heritage Festival – to find more interesting events in April-May 2018 in your area, visit the National Trust event page here.
