Yarn in The Yards
There’s so much that goes into the few strands of twisted fibres we wear for warmth, style and comfort.
There’s the growing, the processing, the selling and the using.
All of these steps are done by teams of people (and sheep) and they all have stories to tell.
Join us in Birregurra at “The Yards” pop-up event space on Saturday 4 February 2017 to learn more about yarn.
This has come about because Birregurra is currently running an arts related project centred on the Birregurra Hall called “enLightenme: I have a Hall in my Heart” – and part of it entails the establishment of an outdoors events space called “The Yards” referencing the prior use of that area as a sheep/cattle sale yards. Over summer The Yards project has been running a great series of events, and I thought we needed to put sheep and wool in the picture!
So the afternoon is about having a yarn about yarn. From growing wool, to processing it, to selling it, to using it. It’s a very small step in promoting wool as a first choice fibre, and to educate our community about the local wool industry.
It’s free to participate and people are encouraged to bring along a woolcraft project to work away at while they listen in to the various presentations.
