Indigo Dyeing: Casual Dipping

Saturday 30 May - Morning Session

Indigo Dipping Day

9:30am to 12:30pm

This session allows participants to have access to a range of organic indigo vats for their own projects. Each vat offers a different intensity of hue.

The $50 session fee covers use of the studio and casual instruction by Heather Thomas. A further charge of $5 per 100gm of fibre means participants can bring along any type of material/fibre and amount, with the proviso that Heather understands the capability of the vats and will determine what can and can’t be dyed in the session. Feel free to get in touch to see if you planned project will work.

Perhaps you have some yarn you’ve naturally dyed previously? Overdying with indigo creates a colour you cant obtain otherwise. Or, dye a base of indigo on yarn or cloth ready for another colour over the top.

Some resources will be available to help create resists for fabric, clothing and yarns. Clamps, string, blocks, clips, poles for simple shibori and arashi type patterning.

Up to 8 people per session with coffee on arrival included.

To make the most of your time, please wash well any fibres/clothing for dyeing beforehand. This will help the dye to penetrate well for lasting colour.
