Crafty Sunday - 3 Sept 2023 - Report

Crafty Sundays was a celebration of the spring onset yesterday. It was so nice to see so many sitting outdoors again with their woolcraft project in hand.

As often, there was a brilliant diversity of handcrafted items to admire and inspire, matched with good chat and peace in the company of others.

We discussed a raft of interesting woolcraft related threads – here’s a summary:

Aleks Byrd’s Estonia Knitting classes were a great success and we’ll lobby to have her back for more! Hand’s already up for a class on steeking. Have a look at Alek’s visit highlights video here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwL_KSMhENO/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Yarn Trail Victoria visited Tarndie on their Knitting Bus – good fun! Jess has more upcoming trips from Ballarat - https://yarntrailvictoria.com.au/

A recent visit by Keisuke from Enneste Tokyo introduced us to the uber-cute technique of Japanese embroidery darning - https://www.instagram.com/mimstermade/

We squeezed in a visit to the “Sutr Santati – stories of India woven in thread” exhibition in Melbourne. It drove home the high regard of textiles to culture and economy in India. There was a quote that would apply to woolcrafters in Australia too  –

...hand-crafted textiles are an outpouring of the artisans’ lives and their ability to transfer generational knowledge, passion and resilience.

We looked at Jill’s beautifully, spun and dyed Polwarth fleece from the 90’s that is become an intriguing piece of “Fission” knitting. We’ve found it on Ravelry. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-path-is-clear

Ged’s fox beanie wasn’t a winner at the Murrundidi Beanie Festival competition, but her passion to set foot into a new sock category at the festival had a good level of support – keep track at https://beanie.org.au/

We’ll be taking Tarndie on the road in NSW.

Sept 10 in Wyong for the NSW  Knitters Guild “Fibre Fest” and then again Oct 28 for “Fibre Frolic” in Mulgoa – Western Sydney.  - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089697963871
