Crafty Sundays Report - 8 October

It’s turning into quiche kind of weather. Hot quiche that is. We’re definitely not yet into room temperature quiche season yet.

And so, with quiche in their bellies, a wonderful group of woolcrafters graced Tarndie with their skills and good company yesterday within the drift of a fully laden wisteria.

Here’s a few items that were talked about and admired - and no doubt heavily inspected to see how something was made!

Jan’s Arboreal jumper.

Pattern by Jennifer Steingass. Jan from Olinda showed us her midway knit using Tarndie’s 8ply Mallard as the main colour. Jan recommended doing a swatch on this top down pattern prior. She liked that it was an 8ply/DK pattern where the designer often uses 10ply and that there wasn’t a lot of sewing. Jan has used 5 x 100gm balls in the main colour with slim, shortish sleeves.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/arboreal

Gloria’s Bright Sweater.

Pattern by Junko Okamoto. While Gloria was showing us her Steven West shawl, we also noticed her jumper. It immediately had a Japanese look about it – linear patterns, subtle embellishments, unusual and technical. There was a lot of love for the collar. We think the Tarndie Polwarth/Silk blend would be perfect for this 4ply knit.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bright-sweater

Crochet Faye’s flower scarf

This one in 4ply using the Origins range in it’s early days. Thanks Faye for navigating Pinterest to rediscover the pattern for some crochet joy. https://atty-s.com/2014/11/flower-scarf-pattern.html

Manna Gum

Our latest naturally coloured Polwarth yarn is now available in-store and online.

It’s a blend of lighter and darker coloured fleece lines sorted at shearing. Our intent with this yarn is to create depth and shade variations to mirror the texture of our old Manna Gum trees in the paddocks.

The 4ply runs at 384m per 100gm ball, while the 8ply is 192m per 100gm ball. Both are avilable in skeins and cones too.

New “Ash” colour top

The latest “vintage” of coloured top is a little darker than the old Light Grey and a litle lighter than the Dark Grey! We’re calling it Ash and it’s 100% naturally coloured Polwarth milled in Victoria. https://www.tarndie.com/onlineshop/tops

 Natural Dye Kep

Michelle attended our natural dyeing class a mere 2 weeks ago, then busily knitted up a beautiful Shetland beanie using her dyed yarn for all to admire. https://www.shetlandwoolweek.com/knitting-pattern/

Colour ideas…

Deb’s colour choices in her hospital blanket of grey, black and pop of orange showed us how effective that colour combo looked.

Our natural and Blackened combo would work with any other colour from the Homestead Gardens or Origings range.

Light summer jumper sampler.

Ruth’s Baby's Cardigan was a bit of a heart-melter! The #375 pattern is by Heirloom using our Polwarth/Silk 4ply Latte colour.
